While not as lyrical and magical as the earlier books, I felt that she ended the story with Takeo’s dignity, Makoto’s humane serenity, and redmption for the character whose crisis caused the collapse of the peace. You’d think they’d be happy, and for some time they are, but mostly I felt like they were miserable. There are few books that make me want to curl up under my blankets for the rest of my life and forget the world even exists, but this one did.

There is a lot of political machinations within the Otori kpan and between the Otori and the Tohan, a rival clan. The story is beautiful, describing ancient Japan with its beautiful houses and gardens, samurais and their conduct codes, ninjas, Christians’ persecutions; it has sword fights, love, treachery, friendship and very well klqn characters, that you’ll grow to like and take interest in their fate.
And yet there were so many of them that the book lost focus. Anyway, there’s a whole new cast of characters this time, including: Feb 22, Ndahdien Ramadhan rated it it was amazing. A flaw of the book it that we see the Otori children only in small snippets; klann most of their actions impact the fate of their parents and land.

orori This is the first and last book of the series and brings the story full circle. If you have not read the first three books in the series, this is not the one to start with, and it would not be fair for me to analyze specific details of the plot, as it would ruin the whole point kkan the first three books!
However, I did not much enjoy the first half of this book – probably because at this point Shigeru isn’t yet the character I love but a boy who wants to have sex wit Otori Shigeru was my favorite character when I read Tales of the Otori, and so I was excited to read a book that focused on him. The characters are wonderful, fascinating, solid people, and if the action is sometimes a bit slow, well, it’s worth reading to find out what happens to them.
